NAME: Kris DreemurrCANON: Deltarune
CANON POINT: End of Chapter 4, Pacifist/All Shadow Crystals
BACKGROUND: Deltarune Wiki
QUICK ASIDE: Kris is possessed by an entity known as the Soul, which they are keeping because it's a pretty major part of their character. It can control their actions and has a bunch of other weird powers that won't work anymore. We don't know that much about the Soul as a character, but it is strongly implied that the Soul is a stand in for the out-of-game player. For the sake of not making things weird, I am treating the Soul as an otherworldly entity that has some knowledge of Undertale canon but is otherwise just another character within the story of Deltarune. It's confused but trying its best to fit in. In the event that the Soul-is-the-player thing is actually confirmed canon then my soulsona is a really hardcore RPer. Don't worry about it.
SUITABILITY:
I think it's just really really interesting to make Kris a Pokemon. They are the one and only human in an entire town populated by monsters. Their whole life they've struggled to fit in, feeling disconnected from their human identity and wanting nothing more than to be a monster like the rest of their friends and family. So... now they get to have that! And live in a world with only monsters, where everyone thinks they fit in! This is going to do crazy things to their brain chemistry and I think they're really gonna struggle with the idea of going home one day. They do have people back home they want to see again and a very important apocalypse-causing??preventing job to do, but is it worth giving up the one thing they've wanted their whole life that they thought would be impossible...?
QUESTIONNAIRE:
♥︎ Your character is on an exploration quest when they find an injured Pokemon in need of help. This Pokemon appears to be in distress and is quite dangerous, posing a risk to your character even if they mean well, and putting your quest mission at risk. What do they do? What are some possibilities of how they work with teammates to address this, or do they go at it alone?Honestly, pretty standard fare for Kris. They're going to help the distressed Pokemon even if it means dancing around attacks in the process. They're a natural leader, so they'd take a commanding role to tell their teammates what to do in order to best calm the creature down. What that entails depends on the creature and the situation—reassuring words, singing, dancing, intentionally taking a few hits, flirting, there's not much they're not willing to try to ease a tense situation.
♥︎ Your character's worst enemy has recently appeared in game, and has joined the guild your character is part of. They both want to tackle the same quest, and your character's enemy suggests that they work together as a team to accomplish this goal. How does your character respond to this?this question is really funny for spoilers reasons but unfortunately that plot thread is still a mystery so I can't even comment on it if I wanted to, rip. Kris doesn't have a lot of enemies! Comes with the territory of befriending literally everyone that tries to kill them. If it's someone like King then they might raise an eyebrow at it (he already pulled the "pretend to call a truce so he can backstab them" trick once), but even if Kris has doubts about it being a good idea the Soul would push them to accept everyone no matter what. So, sure, they can work as a team. They'll just have to watch their own back, just in case.
♥︎ The leader of your character's guild has just approached your character with an offer: they will provide your character with extra supplies, reputation points, and help them with any of their current struggles. In exchange, they ask for your character to do a favor for them that may harm the other guilds, and will not specify what the favor is in advance. It sounds shady, but it's the deal of a lifetime in your character's path to get back home, and refusing it may cause strife for your character within their current guild. What do they think of this offer? What do they ultimately decide to do?This is one of those choices that could go either way. With two minds in one body, Kris's morals are a bit of a mess. If it was Kris's choice, they might hesitate without the full information—not because they're worried about the other guilds (unless Noelle or another close friend might be affected), but because they've taken their share of raw deal already and don't really want to get screwed over again. They'd want to be sure of the benefits this time around... but they'd probably still take it, in the end. They are pretty good at closing out morally questionable deals.
But Kris doesn't get to make the decisions. The Soul... would also take the deal, but with less hesitation. The Soul kind of struggles with long term consequences of its actions. It acts in the moment, choosing what it thinks would be best for Kris, and with Kris in agreement it wouldn't have any reason to say no. Worst case scenario it somehow solves the conflict with the power of friendship, obviously.
♥︎ Due to shortages on supplies, the city is facing issues deciding where to cut corners during this rough time. Somehow, the responsibility has fallen on your character's shoulders, and they have to make a decision. If they send out an extra team of Pokemon, they will be able to gather more food, and through that, save the lives of dozens of starving Pokemon that were in dire need of nutrition. However, the only Pokemon available to scout for food are those working at the pokeclinic, and sending them out would mean certain death for at least two ill patients. What does your character decide to do? How do they feel about this choice, and how would they deal with the pushback that comes from either side?Dozens of people weighs heavier than only a couple that are already sick, but the sick patients would feel a little more personal to Kris. Back home they've had to watch a family friend (who might as well be a second father to them) waste away in a hospital from illness, so Kris would be extremely reluctant to make that call for once.
But hey, they're not the one making the calls! The Soul would make it's decision purely off of two factors:
1. Which choice saves the most people?
2. Does it personally like anyone on either side?
For the second point, if they talked to one of the patients and decided they were funny it may or may not completely swing their decision. The Soul is well-meaning, but it also has a pretty shallow understanding of morals and can be incredibly fickle in its preferences. The good part is that the Soul likes nearly everyone, so it would likely try to find an option that saves everyone instead of committing to a choice that lets even one person die. Whatever choice it ends up making, they'd follow through with confidence whether Kris likes it or not.
POKEMON:
Deino! It's got the colour scheme, the heavy bangs, cool dragon that Susie would like... but most of all, it evolves into a dragon with two heads that hate each other. Which is pretty much exactly Kris and their Soul. Long term chardev goals: get them to wear the Get Along Shirt and each have their own mouth to talk at people with. Chardev strictly necessary because otherwise Kris would try to bite their other head off.
GUILD OPT-OUT:
Opting out of Cheri simply because I already have a character there. Oran would be the more obvious pick since they're strong, fearless, and all about taking action. They may prefer to solve conflict peacefully, but they're fully willing to use force when necessary and determined to make even the fiercest of enemies into loyal allies. That said, I do think there's a strong argument for Lum as well, leaning more into the calculating side that isn't quite as obvious on the surface. They're a schemer even if they don't seem like it, and they absolutely believe in the ends justifying the means over honour and morals.
